Year 5: Horstead Residential
This year's trip takes place: Monday 28th - Tuesday 29th March 2022
The Year 5 children make their way towards Norwich for an outdoor adventure break at Horstead Centre. This visit usually takes place towards the end of the Spring term or early Summer term depending on availability at the time of booking.
As this visit is so close to Norwich, on the way to the centre on the first day, the children will visit Norwich Castle to learn more about the history surrounding the area as well as information about the British countryside, what animals have inhabited our shores and a look at history through the ages.
When the children finally arrive at the Centre it is early afternoon and the children will have some time to unpack and make their beds before taking part in some team games to build up their relationships.
The Centre itself, provides lots of facilities to keep the children occupied throughout their 3 day and 2 night stay. The majority of activities that the children take part in are on site with the local river that runs alongside the back of the centre providing opportunities to go canoeing.
In addition to this the children have access to and will enjoy:
- Rock climbing
- Zip lining
- Low ropes and tunnels
- Team challenges
During the evenings, the children have access to a games room and lounge area where they can relax before and after dinner.
After dinner time, before bedtime, the children will take part in some further activities arranged by our staff. This might include a quiz or game of bingo. As the children get ready for bed, it will then be quiet time and the children will share a film with a warm drink and cookie before its up to bed and lights out.
All of the food that is provided on the visit is prepared and cooked at the centre by their in-house catering team. This means that they are able to adapt and provide suitable meals for children with allergies, specific dietary requirements and also offer vegetarian options.
A usual day of meals include:
Breakfast - cereals and toast
Lunch - sandwiches made by the children with a packet of crisps
Dinner - Jacket potato with fillings and salad or Pasta dish followed by a pudding such as Chocolate Gateux or Strawberry Cheesecake.
In addition to this the children will also receive additional drinks and snacks at intervals throughout the day.
As with all of our residential visits, we will provide Parents with a 'Kit List' well in advance of the trip taking place so that you can prepare appropriate clothing. As with the majority of our visits, the activities are outdoors and will eventually end up with children getting quite wet and mucky! Therefore we remind parents to not purchase clothing especially for the visit, but send older pieces that children aren't worried about getting dirty.
On this visit the children do require a sleeping bag and pillow case (pillows provided by the centre) as well as a pair of indoor shoes or slippers.
We would also like to bring your attention to the fact that children will need to bring their own packed lunch and drink for the first day.
Please see below the latest Parents Meeting Powerpoint which will provide you with further information about this visit.
