Italian Curriculum - Curricolo Italiano

SOUTHFIELDS PRIMARY SCHOOL – PETERBOROUGH   - ITALIAN STATEMENT

Year 1  and 2

Listening: children can understand a few familiar spoken words and phrases.

Speaking: children can say and repeat single words and short single phrases.

Reading: children can recognize and read out a few familiar words

Writing: children can  copy simple words or symbols correctly.

New language content and expectations

Yr. 1 - At the end of the academic year children should be able to use simple forms of greeting and politeness such as: ciao, come stai? (how are you?) Bene, grazie e tu ?(fine, thank you, and you?) To name and count objects; to answer simple questions about themselves, such as: come ti chiami ? (what’s your name?) Or: quanti anni hai? (how old are you?); to follow simple instructions such as: seduti (sit down), colorate (colour), ascoltate (listen);

Yr.2 – At the end of yr.2 children should be able to answer simple questions about name and age, to use the conventions of politeness; to name colours, numbers up to twenty and some  animals; to ask something in Italian saying: “ mi passi…., per favore? Grazie”, to play games and to ask in Italian: “ vuoi giocare con me?”; to know the days of the week and seasons in Italian.

Children have the opportunities to discover about some Italian festivities and culture.

Important part of each lesson are:

1 -Songs like:

La Bella lavanderina (clothes)

Nella vecchia fattoria (animals)

Testa, spalle, ginocchia e piè (body)

Se sei felice (body and feelings)

Mi chiamo Lola (nationality and family)

La pecora nel bosco

Ci vuole un fiore

2- Games like:

Strega comanda color, color (colours)

Farfallina bianca )

Cerco Pinocchio (asking and answer the name)

Tombola  (numbers, colours, food, clothes, animals, toys etc.)

3- Routine  like : answering the register using greetings and different forms of politeness, telling magic spells, singing songs like: ciao amico, ciao amica, ciao maestra, arrivederci maestra etc.

Speaking: children can answer simple questions and give basic information.

Reading: children can understand and read out familiar written words or phrases.

Writing: children can write one or two short sentences to a model or fill in  words on a simple model.

Yr.3 - At the end of the academic year children should be able to count up to 100, to ask and answer the question: che ore sono, per favore? (what time is it, please?); to name the days of the week and the months, to answer the question: che giorno è oggi? (what is the date?) To answer the question: che tempo fa oggi? (what is the weather like today?).

Yr.4 - Children should be able to answer simple questions about people  like family and friends, to answer simple questions about Italy and other subjects studied in Italian

Children have the opportunity to discover about the Italian festivals and the common origins of some words and festivities ( Latin – English).

An important part of the lessons will be the routine , songs, games and counting rhymes of the Italian tradition like: cerco Pinocchio, la tombola, Strega comanda. Mi chiamo Lola, Farfallina Bianca, Che ore sono signor  lupo? Ventuno etcetera.
