Our class structure for 2026–27

Our class structure is designed around the needs of our pupils and the organisation of each phase.

Reception has 2 classes.

Years 1 and 2 are organised into 5 mixed-age classes.

Years 3 and 4 are organised into 5 mixed-age classes.

Year 5 has 3 classes and Year 6 has 3 classes.

Our phase and year leaders work closely with the teachers and support staff within their teams to ensure consistency, strong progression and high-quality teaching and learning across the school.

Supporting every child

At Southfields, children are taught as a whole class, in groups or individually according to their needs. Additional interventions and bespoke provision are used where appropriate to ensure that children can access learning and make progress.

We are an inclusive school with significant expertise in supporting children with SEND. Southfields has a specialist Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) Hub and a strong focus on communication across the school. We are an Elklan Communication Friendly Setting and a Makaton Friendly School, with staff trained in a range of approaches to support children's communication needs.
